A polyhydroxy acid (PHA) with similar effects to alpha hydroxy acids but less irritating due to larger molecular size that doesn't penetrate as deeply as glycolic acid.
Gluconolactone is a polyhydroxy acid that functions similarly to alpha hydroxy acids but with a gentler profile. Its larger molecular structure means it penetrates less deeply than commonly used AHAs like glycolic acid, making it less irritating. The ingredient effectively removes dead skin cells while providing hydration, smooths fine lines and skin texture, and strengthens the skin's protective barrier. Additionally, gluconolactone offers antioxidant properties that protect skin from free radical damage. It is particularly suitable for aging skin with long-term use, sensitive skin types, and even rosacea-prone skin. Djusie uses a 100% plant-based gluconolactone in their formulations.
