Perioral dermatitis (POD)
Perioral dermatitis (POD) is characterised by redness, small pimples, itching and rash around the mouth. The rash may also spread to the corners of the eyes.
The exact cause of POD is unknown. Prolonged stress, harsh cleansers and extensive use of stimulating cosmetic products may contribute to its development when the skin barrier is compromised.
When caring for skin affected by POD, the most important thing is to keep your skincare routine as simple as possible. Choose a gentle cleanser and provide the skin with plenty of hydrating and soothing ingredients.
It is advisable to avoid foaming cleansers, exfoliation and potent active ingredients such as vitamin C, retinol and AHAs.
